Benefits & Opportunities

Working for Texas AgriLife Extension has given me the opportunity to learn valuable hands-on job experience that makes me stand out to potential employers. The internship gave me the opportunity to learn from and build relationships with professionals in my field. I was given the chance to explore this specific career path, which has in turn helped steer me towards a career that I would really be interested in. I was also able to practice and hone my communication, networking, and teamwork skills.  I also received financial compensation for my work as well as an office to use during my internship.

Achievements

My internship experience has given me a range of transferable skills I can use such as:
  • Knowledge and experience in this field
  • Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Strong focus on customer service
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Cultural awareness and understanding in some rural areas of Texas.
  • A strong commitment to effective time management.
I also conducted research for possible "pop-up" events that rural counties might be able to host. The purpose for these events would be to improve nutritional opportunities for high-obesity rural areas in Texas. The biggest problem is finding sustainable option that would be most beneficial to these communities.
